Better Buy Electronics - RSS RSS

What is RSS?

Don't let the acronym scare you, RSS means Really Simple Syndication. RSS was designed to make your internet life easier and more organized. Let's say, for example, you want to check business headlines, health news, find stock quotes, get weather information, and find out about our specials from the Better Buy Blog. As you know, to get all that information requires you to travel to a bunch of different websites and, ultimately, spend a lot of time that you probably don't have. Sure you could save yourself that time by signing up for email newsletters, but how often are you really going to read all of them? Don't they just always seem to fill up your junk mailbox? How great would it be if you could have all the information you want syndicated in one convenient location?! Well, fortunately, that is precisely what RSS does!

How do I use RSS?

Like the title suggests, setting up RSS is simple; all you need is a feedreader that reads RSS feeds. A feedreader can be a desktop program or a customizable internet program or website, such as MyYahoo! Once you decide which feedreader to use, just tell it which RSS feeds you want it to syndicate. An RSS feed can be recognized by the small orange "RSS" or "XML" icon. Following an "RSS" or "XML" link will lead you to a URL with a XML extension. To have your feedreader read that RSS feed, you will need to direct your feedreader to that URL. An easy way you can do this is by right-clicking the "RSS" or "XML icon, selecting "copy shortcut," and then pasting that URL into the feedreader. Unfortunately, not all websites have RSS feeds, but you will always know when they do by the RSS icon. So, not only does RSS make your internet browsing easy, it is just as easy to set up!
